The Masters Honorary Starters: A Must See Tradition

Everyone has their favorite traditions of the Masters. Maybe you enjoy napping to the Masters theme song while Jim Nantz whispers sweet nothings.

I like Amen Corner but maybe you like the drama at 16.

The Par 3 completion on Wednesday is always fun and lighthearted but has had its share of memorable moments over the years. From the cringe of Tony Finau’s ankle, to the emotion of Jack Nicklaus’ Grandson Gary’s Hole-in-One.

One of my favorite traditions is the honorary start at Augusta early Thursday morning. Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson did the honors this year. Jack looked great in red and black while striping one down the fairway. Gary was mic’d up during the Par 3 contest and brought quality content throughout while also shooting extremely well for 87 years old. Not sure where Gary’s drive went but based on the leg kick I’m guessing it was middle-middle. Lastly the young buck Tom Watson was silky smooth with his swing and his lavender look. And with that the 2023 Masters is under way, enjoy the tournament.

  1. […] Jack Nicklaus is regarded by many as the GOAT and I’m not gonna argue, 18 major championship wins and 73 total professional tournament wins. Legend. There are plenty of career highlights from Jacks long career but this clip is from 2010 is another huge moment in golf lore that adds to the golf legend of Jack Nicklaus. This unbelievable moment came while Jack was playing a ceremonial round with Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, and Johnny Miller. Lucky for us this moment was captured on film and they were all mic’d up. Johnny Miller is staring at a 100’ putt on the 10th hole that goes uphill, breaks multiple times, and looks impossible. It sets up a moment that has to be seen to be believed. […]
